Birdlip ride in the cold

Ordnance Survey Map of route
Brrr. It was cold. Thermometer tried to lie and tell us it was +2.5C but it felt much colder in the icy wind.

Tony, Malc and I set off into the woods and headed off towards Cranham. From just above the trout farm we headed into Lord and Ladies’ Wood, down to Sheepscombe, Far End, Workman’s Wood (coming out just along from the Foston’s Ash) and then back through the woods alongside Buckholt Road to Birdlip.

Conditions on the ground were near perfect, with a little bit of mud to keep us awake.

All in all a great ride, taking in some trails that I hadn’t ridden for a year or more and reminding us of the great riding to be found nearby.

Yes, it was hard to get enthusiastic about setting off in the cold conditions, but once warmed up it turned into an excellent ride, with a fair bit of shelter in the woods from the cold wind. The sun even came out towards the end as well, giving a hint of spring!

Thanks to Alastair for putting together some great trails and leading the ride. Once again I’m glad I made the effort to get up and go :)
